2026 CHARTER AMENDMENT (CONSTITUTIONAL OFFICERS)

Policy Council · 2026-07-13 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, in conjunction with the general election. The purpose is to allow voters to decide on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendments address the reestablishment of elected County Constitutional Offices (Sheriff, Tax Collector, Property Appraiser, and Supervisor of Elections), clarify duties of the Clerk and County regarding finance and budget, and require County employees to take a leave of absence when running for an elected constitutional office. The Charter Review Task Force recommended these changes with a unanimous vote. The resolution was introduced on June 26, 2026, and is currently in committee. The final action date is not stated, but the agenda date for the vote is September 1, 2026. The prime sponsor is Danielle Cohen Higgins.
