CHARTER AMENDMENT, ARTICLE 7 ADVERTISING

Policy Council · 2026-07-13 · resolution

Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to allow voters to decide on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment would expand allowable advertising within county parks. Currently, advertising is permitted only in connection with event sponsorships, provided it is compatible with the park and does not unreasonably impair public use or damage the park. The amendment seeks to remove the sponsorship requirement, potentially generating revenue for park operations and programs, with all generated revenue to be used exclusively for the park where the advertising occurs. This measure requires a two-thirds vote of commissioners present for placement on the ballot and a majority of voters to pass. The Parks, Recreation, and Open Spaces Department faces funding challenges, and expanded advertising is seen as a way to alleviate these without raising taxes.
