Miami-Dade County is holding a countywide special election on November 3, 2026, to vote on amending the Home Rule Charter. The proposed amendment would increase the residency requirement for candidates running for County Commissioner from six months to 365 days (one year) prior to the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was introduced on June 26, 2026, and is currently in committee. The Prime Sponsor is Danielle Cohen Higgins. A scrivener's error correction was made on July 9, 2026, changing a reference from Resolution No. R-255-24 to Resolution No. R-225-24. The Charter Review Task Force recommended this change with a vote of ten in favor and none against.
