SAME DAY PERMIT PROGRAM

Miami-Dade County is creating a Same-Day Permitting Program for certain minor residential projects. This program aims to expedite the permit application process for homeowners. Eligible projects include fences up to six feet, gates, stairs, railings, driveways, pavers, trusses, pools, windows, doors, shutters, skylights, garage doors, roofing and re-roofing, kitchen or bathroom remodels, interior or partial demolition, prefabricated sheds, minor non-structural repairs, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing repair permits. Projects requiring structural review, those in historic districts, with open code enforcement cases, or to legalize existing violations are not eligible. Applicants will need to submit documents and plans electronically prior to an in-person or virtual review. The County Mayor or designee will implement the program via an implementing order and will submit semi-annual reports detailing application numbers, approvals, denials, and reasons for delays. If delays are due to the reviewing department, permit fees will be refunded. The ordinance is currently in committee.
