Miami-Dade County is seeking to modify Field Permit No. 8042676-DA, which currently allows mechanical beach cleaning for sargassum removal at specific locations. The proposed modification would grant the County discretion to select additional sargassum hot spots for cleaning without requiring further Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) approvals. The permit currently covers areas including Crandon Park, Miami Beach Government Cut to 3rd Street, Miami Beach 22nd Street to 26th Street, Miami Beach 26th Street to 32nd Street, Bal Harbour Pier, and Haulover Jetty. The Recreation, Tourism, and Resiliency Committee forwarded this matter to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) with a favorable recommendation. The BCC is expected to consider this item on September 1, 2026.
