Miami-Dade County is seeking a modification to Field Permit No. 8042676-DA, related to mechanical beach cleaning, to allow the County discretion in selecting additional sargassum hot spots without requiring further Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) approvals. The current permit covers specific sections of Crandon Park, Miami Beach (Government Cut to 3rd Street, 22nd Street to 26th Street, 26th Street to 32nd Street), Bal Harbour Pier, and Haulover Jetty. This action aims to improve the efficiency of sargassum removal from County beaches, which are vital to the tourism industry and resident quality of life. The Recreation, Tourism, and Resiliency Committee forwarded this matter to the Board of County Commissioners (BCC) with a favorable recommendation.
