Miami-Dade County is seeking a modification to Field Permit No. 8042676-DA, which currently allows mechanical beach cleaning for sargassum removal at specific locations. The resolution directs the County Mayor or designee to coordinate with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to modify the permit. The goal is to grant the County discretion to select additional sargassum hot spots for cleaning as needed and feasible, without requiring further FDEP approvals for each addition. This aims to improve the efficiency of sargassum removal to mitigate negative impacts on tourism and resident quality of life. The permit currently covers areas including Crandon Park, Miami Beach Government Cut to 3rd Street, Miami Beach 22nd Street to 32nd Street, Bal Harbour Pier, and Haulover Jetty.
