Miami-Dade County is seeking a modification to Field Permit No. 8042676-DA, which currently allows mechanical beach cleaning of sargassum seaweed at specific hot spots. The resolution directs the County Mayor or designee to coordinate with the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) to gain discretion to select additional sargassum hot spots as needed, without requiring further FDEP approvals. This aims to improve the efficiency of sargassum removal from the county's 17 miles of beaches, which are vital to the tourism industry and resident quality of life.
