Miami-Dade County, through the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department (MDFR), was approved to apply for, receive, and expend up to $250,000.00 in grant funds from the Florida Inland Navigation District (FIND) Waterways Assistance Program (WAP). An additional $250,000.00 in Fire District Funds will be used as a local project funding cash match. The funds are designated for upgrades to the fireboat lift system at PortMiami. The existing docks are 17 years old, structurally outdated, and cannot support modern fireboat vessels, impacting deployment, maintenance, safety, and readiness. The project aims to modernize and strengthen the lift infrastructure to ensure reliable, mission-ready fireboat operations, critical for public safety and regional resilience given the growth in maritime activity. The resolution was adopted on April 21, 2026.
