MAJOR SERVICE CHANGES TO THE BUS NETWORK
Transportation Cmte · 2026-04-14 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted Resolution R-379-26 on May 5, 2026, authorizing the Department of Transportation and Public Works (DTPW) to implement major service changes to the bus network on or after July 20, 2026. These changes affect Routes 8 and 24, Route 37, and Route 132, impacting County Commission Districts 5, 6, 7, 10, 11, and 12. The changes include route extensions, reduced frequency on some routes, and discontinuation of one route due to low ridership. The overall estimated net fiscal savings are approximately $2.01 million annually. Public feedback was gathered through community meetings and in-field outreach. For Routes 8 and 24, community feedback led to proposals for reestablishing service along SW 24 Street and to the University Lakes Mobile Home Park, providing a more direct ride to Brickell, and reestablishing weekend service. A community meeting on December 16, 2025, received positive feedback from attendees. For Route 37, service frequency reduction was proposed due to low ridership, with public outreach at Douglas Road Station and Airport Station yielding 15 positive, 31 negative, and 45 indifferent responses. Route 132 is proposed for discontinuation due to very low ridership, with outreach at Hialeah Market Tri-Rail Station indicating riders understood the need for discontinuation. Municipalities and Tri-Rail staff were briefed and understood the discontinuation. The changes are intended to rightsize and enhance transit services.
