The Sumter County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) and the School Board of Sumter County are entering into a School Safety Program Agreement with the Sumter County Sheriff's Office. This agreement, effective October 1, 2026, through September 30, 2027, assigns 15,236 hours of School Resource Officer (SRO) time. The BOCC will invoice the School Board at $46.58 per hour for these hours, with any hours exceeding the allotment billed at $93.16 per hour. The agreement covers SRO services at multiple elementary, middle, and high schools, as well as an academy, located throughout Sumter County. The BOCC also funds a Sergeant position for SRO oversight. This agreement nullifies prior agreements regarding SROs and is in response to the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Act. Construction contracts for master grading, stormwater, and roadway improvements are in place. All project improvements are scheduled for completion by June 2008. The total estimated construction cost for all project improvements is $125,238,053, with $81,339,399 funded by the District, $24,297,796 by the Developer, and $19,600,858 by utilities.
