The Board of County Commissioners held a Special Call Meeting to approve a settlement agreement with the Sheriff. The agreement resolves the Sheriff's Circuit Court case and his Administration Commission budget appeal. The County will appropriate an additional $3.5 million to the Sheriff's FY 2025-2026 budget and a $4 million increase to the Sheriff's FY 2026-2027 budget. In exchange, the Sheriff will dismiss pending cases and not seek further budget amendments this fiscal year, except in the event of a declared emergency. The Sheriff also agreed not to appeal the FY 2026-2027 budget if funded at the agreed level. The settlement was approved by a vote of 5-0. Mary Martinez spoke in support of the Sheriff's leadership during public comment.
