TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PLAN MAJOR UPDATE
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted the 2026 Transit Development Plan (TDP) Major Update, covering the 10-year period from FY 2026 through FY 2035. This plan, branded as MDT10Ahead, is a requirement for transit agencies receiving state funds and serves as a strategic blueprint for meeting transportation needs. It establishes a 10-year strategic and financial framework for transit investment, explores the relationship between land use and transit, and documents anticipated future demand. The update includes an overview of the plan, public involvement process, coordination with other planning efforts, operating environment, land use analysis, demand estimation, and a 10-year implementation and financial plan. Public outreach included a survey with over 5,000 responses, pop-up events, social media efforts, and presentations to various committees. The survey indicated general rider satisfaction and feelings of safety at stations, with opportunities to improve safety in accessing stations and stops. An Advisory Review Committee (ARC) with representatives from various entities provided guidance. The plan forecasts ridership growth outpacing population growth with the development of premium transit corridors, particularly among choice riders. Adoption of the TDP is a prerequisite for State Public Transit Block Grant funds.
