TRANSIT DEVELOPMENT PLAN MAJOR UPDATE
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-06-02 · resolution
Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners adopted a resolution approving the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works' (DTPW) Major Update of the 2026 Transit Development Plan (TDP). This 10-year plan, covering Fiscal Years 2026 through 2035 and branded as MDT10Ahead, serves as a strategic blueprint for transit needs, infrastructure, investment, and anticipated future demand. It is a requirement for receiving State Public Transit Block Grant funds from the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT). The update includes analysis of public involvement, coordination with other planning processes, the operating environment, land use relationships, demand estimation, and a 10-year operating and capital program. Public outreach included a survey with over 5,000 responses, pop-up events, social media, analysis of 311 calls, and the Citizens' Independent Transportation Trust (CITT) ambassador program. The survey indicated general rider satisfaction and feelings of safety at stations, with opportunities for improvement in accessing stations and stops. An Advisory Review Committee (ARC) with representatives from various entities also provided input. The plan forecasts ridership growth outpacing population growth with the development of premium transit corridors, particularly among choice riders. The adoption authorizes the County Mayor or designee to submit the TDP Major Update to FDOT.
