St. Lucie County is planning a sensory-friendly nature preserve, the St. Lucie Woods Sensory-Friendly Preserve, located on Oleander Avenue. This project is designed for individuals on the autism spectrum and other neurodivergent individuals, as well as seniors and those with visual or hearing challenges. The preserve will focus on conservation and enhancement of natural resources, creating a safe, nature-based experience. Planned features include ADA parking, a bus loop, a welcome pavilion, restrooms with adult changing facilities, a magic meadow, a wilderness trail, a boardwalk trail to the water's edge with a kayak landing and observation deck, and interactive exhibits themed around adaptation. The project is currently under review, with due diligence and project planning completed. Construction is progressing on entryway fencing, driveways, and parking, with the welcome pavilion, restrooms, boardwalk, and trails also underway. This project presents an early opportunity for contractors, suppliers, and service providers in site preparation, grading, concrete, paving, utility work, framing, roofing, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, flooring, landscaping, and exhibit fabrication.
