Southeast Florida recorded 5,742 new business filings the week of July 20 to 26, 2026, down 9.4% from the same week last year.

Broward was the only one of the region's three big counties to add filings. It rose 77 to 1,537. Miami-Dade slipped 43 to 2,782 and Palm Beach gave back 98 to 1,052.

The smaller counties went the other way. Martin rose 41.4% to 99 filings and moved ahead of Indian River in the regional order. St. Lucie added 19 to reach 143. Okeechobee rose 57.9% to 30.

Two groups gave back the most ground. Property holding and asset protection companies fell 61 to 972. Retail fell 57 to 358.

Several kinds of business still grew. Hospitality and tourism added 56 to reach 353. Administrative and support services added 39 to reach 403. Finance and insurance added 24 to reach 148.

• Broward County commissioners took up a resolution for a project called Orange Blossom, pairing a $210,000 Strategic Job Creation Incentive with a $100,000 Direct Cash/Job Creation Incentive across fiscal years 2027 through 2036. Both are tied to the creation of 150 new high wage, high skill jobs. A second motion would add another $100,000 economic development grant tied to those same 150 jobs and a minimum capital investment of $7,000,000.

  A $7,000,000 capital investment and 150 jobs means space to build out and a payroll to support, and most of that gets bought from local firms.

  Broward County Commission, 2026-06-09

• Fort Lauderdale commissioners took a second reading of an ordinance amending Chapter 15 of the city code, the chapter covering business tax receipts and business regulations, to set up a Certificate of Use pilot program. It covers all four commission districts.

• The Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board reviewed Ordinance No. 34-26, a city initiated amendment creating a new Article 8.1 in the land development regulations. It would set impact fees for municipal facilities, police, fire rescue, water, wastewater and stormwater management.
