North Central Florida logged 416 new business filings the week of August 1 to 7, up 60 from the week before and the strongest week in the region since late May.

North Central Florida recorded 416 new business filings the week of August 1 to 7, up 60 from the 356 the week before, a 16.9% gain. That is also 12 more than the same week last year, when the region filed 404. The 13 week average sits at 386.8, so this week runs ahead of the recent pace. It is the first consecutive weekly increase after a dip.

The gain is broad rather than one county carrying it. Marion led with 193 filings, up 28, and Alachua followed with 132, up 25. Ocala led cities with 167, up 29, and Gainesville had 84, up 12. Smaller cities climbed fast too: Alachua up 6 to 13, High Springs up 7 to 13, and Live Oak up 4 to 13.

Real estate and property holding is the standout. Real Estate and Rental & Leasing more than doubled, rising 36 to 57 filings, up 171.4% from 21 the week before, and it is now the largest sector at 13.7% of the week. Construction rose 13 to 47, up 38.2%, and professional services grew 6 to 44. Together they point to active building and the firms that support it.

Not every sector rose. Retail fell 9 to 26, down 25.7%, and health care eased 2 to 20. Those pullbacks are smaller than the gains in property and construction, so the week still finished well ahead. The mix is shifting toward property, building, and the services around them rather than storefront retail.
