Southeast Florida recorded 5,518 new business filings the week of August 31 to September 6, a second straight weekly decline.

Professional services was the one big category moving up. It added 105 filings to reach 907, up 13.1%, and it is now the largest group at 16.4% of the week's total. Consulting and management names lead the trending words, which points to firms forming to serve other businesses.

The property side pulled back. Construction and trades fell 54 filings to 303, down 15.1%, and property holding and asset protection fell 117 to 899, down 11.5%. Together these are the sectors tied to building and holding property, and their decline is the main reason the week is down.

Palm Beach was the one big county moving up. It rose 71 filings to 1,128, up 6.7%, while Miami-Dade fell 130 to 2,630 and Broward fell 45 to 1,423. Boca Raton climbed two spots to become the second busiest city in the region, up 24 to 251.
