Typical weekly pace

average over the last 13 weeks
New business filings in Southeast Florida slowed to 3,903 the week of June 29 to July 5, 2026, the lightest week in about three months as the Fourth of July holiday paused much of the region.
Almost all of the week's activity stayed in the three big counties. Miami-Dade recorded 1,881 new businesses, Broward 1,013, and Palm Beach 771. The city of Miami alone accounted for 1,103. Okeechobee was the only county to hold its ground, level at 12.
The slowdown was seasonal. The week ran through the Fourth of July, when state offices and many businesses were closed, so fewer days were open for filing. Every county came in below the week before, and the region sat under its usual pace of 6,646 a week.
The mix kept its usual shape. Property holding and asset protection companies led with 658 new filings, followed by professional services with 613. Personal and other services added 362, construction and the trades 268, administrative and support firms 248, and healthcare 248. For anyone selling to new owners, holding companies and professional firms remain the largest fresh pool of prospects this period.
Building activity across the region has not stopped. Construction and the trades still formed 268 new businesses, and county and city boards spent the month moving rezonings, variances, and new projects toward approval. Those projects are the work behind the filings, and they point to steady demand for the trades in the weeks ahead.
The trend
How the region is trending
Very little decline over the past 13 weeks with a dip this past week pulling the average down.
The bold line is the 13-week average. Read it for the longer trend. The thin line is each week's count, which swings week to week.
The yearly pattern
How the year usually runs
- 2025-26
- 2024-25
- 2023-24
- 2022-23
- 2021-22
New business formation usually runs highest around Mar and is quietest around Dec, holding near 27,500 a month across the years.
Each line is one year, ending at the current month on the right, so you can read the past year left to right. New Year's Day is left out because the state office is closed, so almost no businesses register that day.

Standouts this week
A holiday-week low
This was the lightest week for new business filings in about three months. The dip lines up with the Fourth of July, when state offices and many businesses were closed, and the region ran well under its usual pace of 6,646 a week.
The tri-county core carried the week
Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach together accounted for 3,665 of the region's new businesses. Miami led all cities with 1,103.
Okeechobee held steady
Okeechobee was the only county in the region that did not slip from the week before, staying level at 12 new businesses.
Around the region
Local context
- The City of North Miami Planning Commission reviewed a conditional use permit on June 25 for a large mixed use project on about 4.44 acres near NE 146th Street. The plan pairs a 14 story building with 269 apartments and 4,526 square feet of ground floor retail, a separate 8 story building with 317 apartments, 14 townhomes, and an 8 story garage with 940 spaces. A residential build this size means sustained work for concrete, framing, and structural trades, electrical and plumbing crews, elevator and garage builders, glazing and roofing, and the engineering, surveying, title, and insurance firms behind vertical construction. City of North Miami Planning Commission, 2026-06-25
- Broward Health opened a new around the clock freestanding emergency room in the City of Sunrise, a 16,000 square foot facility with 15 private exam rooms plus on site X-ray and CT imaging, the first standalone emergency room in the city. A new medical building of this size supports steady demand for clinical and support staffing, medical equipment and supply vendors, facilities upkeep and commercial cleaning, and the imaging and lab services that keep an emergency room running. Broward Health, 2026-07-02
- The Hialeah Planning and Zoning Board approved, 7 to 0, a land use change and rezoning at 2295 West 4th Court that shifts the parcel from retail commercial to a multiple family residential district, clearing a former commercial lot for a new apartment development. The change points to future work for site and foundation contractors, framing, concrete, electrical, and plumbing trades, plus the architects, engineers, surveyors, and the title and insurance firms tied to new apartment construction. City of Hialeah Planning and Zoning Board, 2026-05-13
- The City of Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board is weighing a setback variance at 1207 S. Swinton Avenue that would reduce the front setback from 30 feet to 10 feet 7 inches and the rear setback from 10 feet to 7 feet 7 inches so a new build can fit the lot. Approval would open near term work for site prep and foundation crews, framers, roofers, and the electrical, plumbing, and finishing trades, along with the surveyors and land use attorneys who move small lot projects through permitting. City of Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board, 2026-07-20
- The Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board is also reviewing a conditional use request to allow nighttime outdoor dining at restaurants inside the five historic buildings of Sundy Village, the mixed use district along South Swinton Avenue known as Block 61. More evening restaurant service downtown drives demand for hospitality staffing, outdoor seating and commercial kitchen buildout, food and beverage distributors, commercial cleaning, and lighting and sound installers. City of Delray Beach Planning and Zoning Board, 2026-07-20
- The St. Lucie County Planning and Zoning Commission has the Pruitt Commerce Center on its docket, a rezoning and preliminary planned development plan for a new commerce center. The July 16 hearing was pulled because public notice was not adequate, so the item will be re-noticed and rescheduled and is still moving toward a future county vote. A commerce center working through county review signals coming demand for site and road contractors, concrete and steel suppliers, warehouse and building trades, and the engineering, surveying, and permitting firms that prepare industrial sites. St. Lucie County Planning and Zoning Commission, 2026-07-16
- The same St. Lucie County Planning and Zoning Commission agenda carries a proposed zoning atlas amendment and preliminary development plan for The Club at Indrio Creek, set for a formal hearing. A new planned development moving through county review points to future work for land clearing and site contractors, utility and paving crews, and the architects, engineers, and title and insurance firms tied to new construction. So what
What it means
A holiday week is a quiet one for filings, but the work behind them has not slowed. The steadiest pool of new prospects this period is holding companies and professional firms, the owners who need accountants, insurers, title services, and attorneys first. The construction pipeline is the other clear signal: apartment projects in North Miami and Hialeah, a new emergency room in Sunrise, and commerce and planned developments moving through St. Lucie County all point to steady work for the trades and the firms that serve new building. For anyone selling to new businesses here, the tri-county core is where the prospects are densest, and the contractors, suppliers, and professional firms tied to these projects are the ones best placed to act now.
Methodology
How we counted
Why we report a few weeks later
Florida's official business records are often still being updated for up to two weeks after a business first registers.
To give those records time to fully settle, we report on a week of filings about three weeks after it happens. Reporting a little later lets us show complete, accurate numbers instead of a partial early count.
These counts come from official Florida business registration records for the eight counties of Southeast Florida, covering new companies recorded for the week of June 29 to July 5, 2026. We wait about two weeks after a week ends for the state to finish recording all filings, so these counts are complete and accurate. Industry groups use a plain language grouping of standard business categories, and each share is that group's part of the week's total.
