North Central Florida logged 40 items on the public record this week, 16 of them development work, spread across 12 jurisdictions.

Suwannee County moved the biggest industrial project this week. County commissioners rezoned 65 acres near the Catalyst site off 169th Street from farmland to industrial use. They also hired a financial advisor to plan a new wastewater plant to serve the site, and applied for a state grant to fund the water and sewer utilities it needs.

Palatka approved two separate projects on the same night. The city commission signed off on a $58,573.50 fencing contract at the municipal airport, paid for with a state transportation grant. It also annexed a small parcel on East Harris Street and rezoned it for two family homes.

Gainesville and Alachua County both took up land use decisions. The city's policy committee reviewed funding for a 96 unit affordable housing project. The county's land conservation board weighed buying 163.64 acres of wetlands next to an existing preserve.

Taylor County lined up grants for its airport and a channel dredging project. Wildwood and Mount Dora both moved ahead on capital spending. Wildwood budgeted a wastewater plant expansion that runs over two years. Mount Dora approved a fire station renovation and a new dump truck.

• Palatka's city commission approved a $58,573.50 work order with Hanson Professional Services for wildlife fencing at the Palatka Municipal Airport. The project covers about 6,830 feet of 10 foot fencing and about 970 feet of perimeter fencing. A $600,000 Florida Department of Transportation grant is paying for it. • Palatka's city commission annexed eight parcels totaling about 1.52 acres at 503 E Harris Street. The land use changed to Residential Medium, and the zoning changed to allow two family homes. The change lets the owner, Beck/Sloan Properties Inc, connect the site to city water service. The rezoning opens the parcel to homebuilders, site work crews, and utility contractors. The land is owned by Maven Construction Group Inc and sits next to the existing Barr Hammock Preserve. Most of the property is wetlands. • Gainesville's General Policy Committee reviewed a funding request for Hope at Debra Heights. It is a $31 million, 96 unit affordable rental housing project from Catholic Charities and Crosland Southeast. The developers are asking the city for a $460,000 loan at 5% interest over 30 years. A project this size is work for general contractors, framers, electricians, and plumbers, plus the property management and landscaping companies that serve the community once it opens. • Taylor County commissioners ratified grant applications for a hangar project at Perry Foley Airport and for the Keaton Beach channel dredging project. They also extended a grant agreement for the Steinhatchee Coastal Park.
