Resolution adopted calling a countywide special election in Miami-Dade County, Florida, to be held in conjunction with the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to submit to electors the question of whether to amend the Home Rule Charter to increase the district residency requirement for County Commission candidates from six months to one year before the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was introduced on 6/26/2026, forwarded by the Policy Council with a favorable recommendation as corrected on 7/13/2026, and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on 7/21/2026. A scrivener's error was corrected on 7/9/2026, replacing 'R-255-24' with 'R-225-24'. The Charter Review Task Force recommended the amendment by a vote of ten in favor and none against. The ballot question will read: 'Shall the Charter be amended to change the residency requirement for Commission members, increasing the minimum time a candidate must reside within their district from six months to one year before the start of the qualifying period?'
