RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION

Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution

Resolution adopted by the Miami-Dade County Commission calling a countywide special election to be held in conjunction with the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to submit to electors the question of whether to amend the Home Rule Charter to increase the length of district residency required to run for County Commissioner. The proposed change would increase the minimum time a candidate must reside within their district from six months to one year before the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was introduced on 6/26/2026, forwarded to the Board with a favorable recommendation as corrected on 7/13/2026 and 7/14/2026, and adopted on 7/21/2026. A scrivener's error was corrected to replace 'Resolution No. R-255-24' with 'Resolution No. R-225-24.' The Charter Review Task Force recommended the referendum by a vote of ten in favor and none against. Prime sponsor: Danielle Cohen Higgins. File Number: 261182. Reference: R-681-26. Agenda Item Number: 11A15.
