RESOLUTION CALLING A COUNTYWIDE SPECIAL ELECTION
Board of County Commissioners · 2026-07-21 · resolution
Resolution adopted by the Miami-Dade County Commission calling a countywide special election to be held in conjunction with the General Election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, to submit to voters a proposed amendment to the Home Rule Charter to increase the district residency requirement for County Commission candidates from six months to one year (365 days) before the start of the qualifying period. The resolution was introduced on 6/26/2026, forwarded by the Policy Council on 7/13/2026 and 7/14/2026, and adopted by the Board of County Commissioners on 7/21/2026. The Charter Review Task Force recommended the amendment by a vote of ten in favor and none against. The ballot question will ask: 'Shall the Charter be amended to change the residency requirement for Commission members, increasing the minimum time a candidate must reside within their district from six months to one year before the start of the qualifying period?'
