Miami-Dade County Commissioners are directing the County Mayor or designee to seek a modification of Field Permit No. 8042676-DA from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). The goal is to gain discretion to include additional sargassum hot spots for mechanical beach cleaning within the scope of the existing permit, without requiring further FDEP approvals. The current permit covers specific segments of Crandon Park, Miami Beach (Government Cut to 3rd Street, 22nd Street to 26th Street, 26th Street to 32nd Street), Bal Harbour Pier, and Haulover Jetty. This action is intended to improve the efficiency of sargassum removal from County beaches, which are vital to the tourism industry and resident quality of life.
